TITAN RAIDERS REPEAT: The Heide Trask High School JROTC Raider Team earned their fourth consecutive Virginia-based championship by winning “Raider Guard,” Fort Pickett, VA, on April 8, 2006. Titans had previously won “Raider North” at Powhatan State Park in Virginia in April and again in November of last year as well as last April’s “Raider Guard” meet at Pickett.
Sponsored by Fishburne Military School, this year’s “Raider Guard” featured 17 teams competing in six (6) fitness & military skills related events. The Titan “Blue” team took first place in first aid/litter carry and leadership reaction course, second in physical fitness and third in both the rope bridge and forced march. Their overall score of 460 was fifty points better than Fishburne’s second place tally of 410. The Titan “Gray” team also trophied by taking third place in the first aid/litter carry event.
Winning individual medallions for the Titans were Angel Roman who won the push-up competition with 94 push-ups in one minute and Travis Dunn whose 5:35 mile time was third best in the meet.
The “Blue” team was led by Cory Love. The “Gray” team was led by Shane Hobbs who, except for an injury, would normally have led the program's "Blue" entry. |

| North Brunswick (Leland, NC): Fourth after the first (physical fitness) event, raiders were bewildered by a one point reduction in first aid for not fully covering the gauze with the green bandage and losing time for recovering a dropped splint which, as it turned out, did not count anyway. The 30 second penalty for 6’3” Jonathan Davis kicking into the obstacle during the rope bridge event, then, appeared to finish us off. A course record time of 38 minutes and 43 seconds on the 5K forced march, however, followed by an unlikely run (not much size among Titan Raiders) of four straight wins prior to losing the championship pull to a larger, stronger North Brunswick contingent in the culminating tug-of-war event, put the Titan team in a tie with West Rowan for second place overall. West’s stronger numbers in another event dropped the locals to a very respectable 3d place finish among 19 competing teams. Titan entries in drill and rifle picked up valuable experience. |

| Formal Inspection of the Titan Battalion will take place on Thursday, 9 March. Invitations for parents to witness the opening ceremony, drill routine, color guard presentation and in-ranks portion are being issued now. Essentially, parents should be seated NLT 0920 and expect that the first forty minutes will be the most interesting. Questions are welcome. |
