| Twenty members of the unit visited the NPS Moore's Creek National Battlefield, this date. At this site some 1000 patriot militia men under the command of Colonels Moore, Caswell and Lillington surprized a much larger body of Loyalists at the Moore's Creek bridge and, following a furious outpouring of cannon and musket fire, completely routed the enemy in a mere three minutes and at the loss of a single patriot soldier. Results of this encounter were significant in that it redirected Britian's first attempt at a southern strategy and, as a huge confidence builder in the Carolinas, was the springboard for North Carolina being the first of the colonies to vote for independence. |

| Trask LET-1 entry in the New Hanover County (Wilmington, NC)Annual Drill Meet trophied in three of four events in which entered recently. When one key member was a last minute drop, Richard Soles (already commanding the Squad Unarmed event) was pressed into calling the Squad Armed and into learning/competing as a member of the unit's Color Guard entry. Richard's performance, under difficult circumstances, reflected well upon him and the unit. Other notable performances were Matt Bowen's second place win in the knockout competition and, in particiular, Sylvia Robles competing (as a replacement) in the Armed Individual (female)competition with less than two hours total training. Good meet; extraordinary weather (70 degrees on 16 Dec); and, great effort on the part of the participants and the upperclassmen who went in support and, in some cases, served as event judges. |
